Officer Throws Rs 10 lakh To Neighbour's Home During Vigilance Raid

BHUBANESWAR: A high-ranking officer of the Odisha State Police Housing Welfare Corporation (OPHWC) threw away bundles of currency notes worth Rs 10 lakh on a neighbour’s terrace in Aiginia area of Bhubaneswar to dodge a search operation by Odisha Vigilance on Monday.

The bizarre scene unfolded when the vigilance sleuths knocked the door of Subash Chandra Panda, deputy general manager (eng, civil) of the OPHWC to unearth his suspected disproportionate assets.

“When our personnel introduced themselves, Panda shut the door and rushed inside. Later, we found him throwing cash to his neighbour’s rooftop. We seized the cash to the tune of Rs 10 lakh,” a senior vigilance officer said.

The anti-corruption wing unearthed two multi-storied buildings, including one triple-storied building in Bhubaneswar, approximately 1 kg gold, four plots, cash to the tune of Rs 13 lakh, one benami car and other items during simultaneous house searches at the properties linked to Panda.
