Govt To Formulate Policy For Road Development In Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Saturday said it has started making preparations to formulate a policy to improve road networks, remove huddles and construct new roads in Odisha.

A review meeting under the chairmanship of works minister Prithiviraj Harichandan was held at the Loka Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

The minister laid emphasis on formulation of a policy keeping the next 50 years in view. Moreover, the decision has been made to create a corpus fund for the repair work of old roads.

It was also decided in the meeting that permanent roads will be constructed in the villages with 100 residents by 2029 across the State. Fines will be collected from the persons digging roads without taking permission from the administration.

The Minister directed the officials to prepare a database about the state of the roads and create a road map for solving the traffic-related issues in the State in the coming days. The Minister further ordered to formulate a policy considering the necessity to construct new roads, repair work of old roads, construct bridges, and acquire private lands and forest lands in the State in future.

It was also decided in the meeting to create a special corpus fund for quality construction of roads and maintenance work by using less raw and waste materials like plastic. Moreover, a decision has been made to collect fines from various organisations who are digging roads at different places without getting permission from the government.
