Come, Invest In Odisha: CM Majhi to Indian Diaspora
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi invited the Indian diaspora to invest in Odisha, referring the state as a land of opportunities. In his address during the joint business session at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’s inaugural day on Wednesday, Majhi advocated for Odisha to become the top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in India.
Speaking to a distinguished audience of Indian diaspora entrepreneurs and visionaries, Majhi emphasized Odisha’s vast potential as an investment hub, highlighting its strategic location, abundant natural resources, and business-friendly policies.
“India is the favourite destination of global FDI, and we want to make Odisha the favourite destination of FDI in India,” Majhi said. He outlined the state's competitive advantages, including its status as the second-richest state in mineral resources, well-developed infrastructure with national highways, ports, and rail corridors, and a skilled workforce available at competitive costs. Additionally, Majhi highlighted the peaceful law and order situation and the state’s history of stable political governance, all of which contribute to a favorable investment climate.
Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a $5 trillion economy and the “Purvodaya” initiative to accelerate development in eastern India, Majhi set an ambitious target for Odisha to be among the top five economies in India by 2047, with a projected $1.5 trillion economy. He also spoke about the emerging sectors offering enormous opportunities, including renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, petrochemicals, biotechnology, and tourism. With the promise of “Double Engine Governance,” he assured the audience that Odisha was poised to achieve its growth targets.
Looking ahead to the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar, Majhi invited global investors and members of the diaspora to join in shaping the state’s growth. He expressed confidence that Odisha’s investment-friendly ecosystem, coupled with the central government’s infrastructure push and visionary policies, would transform the state into a leading investment destination.
In conclusion, the CM issued a rallying cry to the global business community: “Come, invest in Odisha. Invest in the future.” His words resonated deeply with the audience, setting an optimistic tone for the state’s vibrant economic future.
The session also saw the participation of key dignitaries such as Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and state industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain, alongside influential business leaders from both the Indian and Odia diaspora, underscoring the significance of the event in fostering Odisha's global economic engagement.
