CBI Arrests Three For Rs 10 lakh Bribery In Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: CBI on Sunday arrested group general manager of Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited, identified as Chanchal Mukherjee, for allegedly taking Rs 10 lakh bribe from a businessman in Bhubaneswar.

The agency also arrested the bribe giver, identified as Santosh Moharana, who is director of a Bhubaneswar-based construction company, along with his associate Debadutta Mohapatra.

CBI registered a case on Saturday against four men, besides some other unknown public servants and private persons, on allegations that Mukherjee, who was posted as group general manager in the Central PSU, was indulging in corrupt and illegal activities in the matter of awarding work orders and clearing bills in exchange for bribes.

Santosh Moharana met Mukherjee at his Bhubaneswar office on Friday. During the meeting, Mukherjee demanded cash of Rs 10 lakh from Moharana. Mukherjee promised Moharana to adjust the said amount in future billings.

Following a tip-off, the CBI laid the trap. The agency officials said they arrested Mukherjee near a luxury hotel in Jayadev Vihar while receiving the bribe money from Moharana on Saturday evening.

Searches were conducted at 8 locations in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. Several incriminating documents and a vehicle used in the commission of offence along with digital devices have been seized.
