Bhubaneswar Turns Into Fortress For DGP/IGP Conference

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha capital came under a thick security blanket after Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun threatened to disrupt the three-day all-India conference of DGPs/IGPs, beginning on Friday.

In view of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to attend the conference at the Lok Seva Bhawan here, the police made unprecedented security arrangements.

Over 70 platoons of state police forces were stationed, and the Special Protection Group, National Security Guard, Border Security Force, and Central Reserve Police Force took guard at the places where Modi and other VVIPs would visit.

“We are fully prepared with our robust and foolproof security arrangements. From constable to Police Commissioner, we are all alert and on duty,” Commissioner of Police S Devdatta Singh said.

“We are aware of the anti-national elements in the country. Security agencies are on high alert. Anti-national elements are being neutralised in the country,” Singh said.

Saying that organising the conference was a proud moment for the Odisha police, Singh said no-drone fly zones have been earmarked at specific areas of Bhubaneswar during the Prime Minister’s visit.
