Bharatpur custody row: CCTV installed in 96% police stations, govt tells Orissa HC

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government assured the Orissa High Court that a standard operating procedure (SOP) had been established for the behaviour of police personnel when interacting with Army personnel at police stations.
This came in response to concerns raised by the court following an incident at the Bharatpur police station, where an Army major and his fiancée were allegedly assaulted by police personnel in September.
In addition, the state's ADG (modernisation) informed the court that CCTV cameras had been installed in at least 96% of police stations across Odisha, with the remaining 4% set to be completed soon. The court had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the non-functioning CCTV cameras at several police stations and had directed the state government to ensure that cameras were operational in all police stations.
