Tamil Film Producer Held In Bhubaneswar For 'Cyber Fraud'

BHUBANESWAR: The cyber police station in Bhubaneswar arrested a Tamil film producer from Chennai on Wednesday for allegedly cheating a city-based businessman worth Rs 19.5 lakh by luring him to invest in share trading. Police identified the accused as Prakash M, 39.

According to police, the victim received a WhatsApp message from an unknown sender in May where he was induced to invest in share trading. Without verifying the credentials of the stranger, the victim agreed to invest.

“The accused added him in a WhatsApp group. The accused induced the complainant to earn more profit by investing money in Internal Equity Account. The complainant created an Internal Equity Account on https://goldman-Img.top and invested Rs 19,50,000,” a police officer said.

Police said the victim raised suspicion only when he unsuccessfully tried to withdraw his money after a few months. He lodged a complaint with the police.

“We traced the money trail and found the involvement of Prakash M, a resident of Kodambakkam in Chennai. We came to know that Prakash produced a few movies. Efforts are on to identify his accomplices,” the police officer said.
