Former BJD MLA Bijay Mohanty Passes Away

BHUBANESWAR: Senior BJD leader and former MLA, Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, passed away on Sunday at the age of 60.

Mohanty, who had served as an elected representative of the Bhubaneswar Central constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2009 and 2014, was found unresponsive in a guest house in Bhubaneswar.

He was quickly rushed to the Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Sources indicated that he had been unwell for several months prior to his death.

His demise has been met with an outpouring of grief from people across various sectors. Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow, recalling Mohanty as a skilled organiser, social worker, and philanthropist who was loved by all.

BJD president and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik also offered his condolences, stating, "His dedication to working for the people will always be remembered." Naveen conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the grieving family and prayed for Mohanty's soul to rest in peace.
