Foreigner Spotted In Puri Jagannath Temple

BHUBANESWAR: An unknown foreign visitor created quite a flutter on Tuesday by entering the Puri Jagannath temple, which is off limits to non-Hindus. The elderly woman was spotted by some servitors and police personnel inside the shrine and immediately taken out.
“We are trying to ascertain her identity. The foreign tourist claimed that she was unaware about the temple’s rule,” a senior police officer said.
Servitors slammed the police for poor vigilance at the shrine entrance. “This is not the first time a non-Hindu entered the temple. Poor vigilance by the police has been prompting foreigners to flout the age-old rule,” said Prasant Mahapatra, a servitor.
