CM Majhi Flags Off 30 New ERSS Vehicles
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday flagged off 30 new vehicles for the commissionerate police under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) scheme.
Of these vehicles, 22 are allocated to Bhubaneswar and 8 to Cuttack, bringing the total ERSS fleet to 44 and 31 vehicles in the twin cities, respectively. Majhi indicated these would replace non-functional patrol vans.
CM Majhi also announced plans to recruit 10,000 positions in the home department and 5,000 home guards to address vacancies and bolster the state's policing system.
Majhi emphasised that home guards are essential to policing. He noted that the previous govt's restrictions on home guard recruitment since 2020 were lifted by the BJP govt after it assumed office.
"Home guards have been rendering great service. We will soon fill the 2,416 vacant positions of home guards. Besides, 2,584 new positions of home guards will be created, totalling 5,000 home guard positions to be filled. The govt is also planning to increase the daily duty allowance for home guards," stated the Chief Minister.
